* A detailed and personalized training schedule will be provided to you every 6 weeks. This schedule will include a detailed description of what each workout entails, time spent in each power/and/or heart rate zone, your total time and work time for the day, your intensity level and your rest in between intervals or sets of exercises. Our goal is to not leave our clients with anything to “wonder” about or question. ECS strives to cover every aspect of your training for the day.
* Power-file analysis (SRM, Power Tap, Ergomo, iBike etc.) will be included with your weekly assessments and on-going individualized planning. Power-file analysis is the best way to quantify your training. This is an invaluable tool for our clients to set intermediate benchmarks as they work towards their goals.
* An exceedingly comprehensive Empower Workout Bible will be provided to every athlete. This document explicitly describes each workout you will do, what it entails, how to perform it correctly and the reasons and methodology behind WHY you are doing the specified workout.
* Nutritional counseling is always available and the more communication between athlete and coach, the better. Dotsie, who is the ECS in-house specialist in this field, will begin by asking each athlete to journal a three-day period of their food intake including details such as time of day, exactly what was eaten, how much, exact amounts, and when and what workouts were done on those days. We believe that to fully analyze your nutritional needs and to help you improve your current habits, we need a precise picture of how you currently fuel yourself.
* Every 6 weeks we will address and evaluate your progress in regards to your skills on the bike. Some of our clients need this service more than others, but our belief is that this is a much neglected piece of the training puzzle for many athletes. You can have the most developed and well-tuned cardiovascular system, but if you can’t perform in the areas of bike handling, cornering, climbing, bumping, positioning and descending, you won’t have the efficiency to win a race.
* Mental and emotional work will be an extensive component of your Empower package. We will assess and address your history and then devise a plan to assist you in becoming a more confident, enthusiastic, positive and clear-minded athlete. Our goal is to assist our clients to not only achieve on-the-bike goals, but also to achieve a more balanced and lower-stress lifestyle.
* Developing your race calendar (including peaks and secondary peaks in performance) is another extensive component of the dynamic on-going process between coach and client. Working towards athletic excellence involves laying out your overall short-, medium- and long-term goals. Following this exercise, ECS coaches will then break each of these up into three segments: personal victory plans, race victory plans, and overall life victory plans.
* Race strategy sessions are an integral part of Empower’s coaching relationship with each client. “Downloading” and debriefing the information a client has to share after a heated criterium, road race or points race is immensely vital in the coach’s aim of evaluating the clients’ strengths and weaknesses in strategy and implementation of tactics. After this post-race discussion on tactics, the coach will provide the client with suggestions and ideas on how to improve in this arena.
* Riding alone with your Empower coach (where applicable and client initiated) is included in most ECS coaching packages. All Empower athletes have access to the Empower Coaching Systems monthly ride (varying time and location).
